Zero:
A Landscape of Conversation and Action
2014, Porcelain, Photography.
A collaboration between environmental anthropologist Adrian Cerezo, photographer Carly Faye, and myself. The original creation of my thousand porcelain cups was indicative of a grim reality. The piece was a confrontation, a critique.
This collaboration re-contextualized the sculpture. Installed during a multi-week environmental event through Ballroom Marfa, the cups became an exchange. Visitors left with a cup and a postcard printed with an image and a call to action. By taking a cup participants were agreeing to leave a story, an idea, or a call to action surrounding their own perception of the natural world.
Replacing a river of waste with a something like hope.
